Latest happenings

Quite sad, I was supposed to do a round yesterday but my internet subscription ended without me noticing.

So it's been really nice this past week.
But before I go on, I'd like to wish a wonderful sister, friend and fellow blogsville neighbour a Happy birthday; speaking of Dolapo Adeleke (Lowla Dee). She's really inspired me with her stories times without number and she is also the Chairperson of a recently launched Monthly Writing competition, tagged 'PEN IT' in which I'm privileged to be part of the panel. It kicks off September 7th, 2011 and hopes to feature about 12 upcoming writing talents anually.

Also, I recently took part in a workshop/Leadership programme for Secondary Schools and it was awesome.
Nigerian youths really need a lot of 'working on'.
There were different sections in the program such as Sex Education, Personal Development, Creative Writing, Car Design (yes, and the guy that took it was superb), Computer Literacy and a few others.
Well, you don't need to ask which one I featured in. Creative Writing nah!

I tell you point blank, Public/Government schools need overhauling but it was refreshing to know how enthusiastic these people are to learning.
So, we (a lady and I) talked about Writing basics, New forms of creative writing (blogging, Tweeting, etc) and had interactive sessions to hear them out. These kids want to learn but there's no one to teach them quality stuff.
Here are some of the pictures:

Sex Education Segment
Unfortunately, I'm still expecting the Creative Writing Session pictures. Will upload soon.
Everytime I remember these day, it only re-iterates the fact that Nigeria's Education Sector needs urgent reforms. I'm proud I'm going to be a part of it. It's a strong conviction.

My poem + highpoints

Okay, this was a late night one. Today was mixed; talking of high-points and low-points.
A typical Lagosian's low-point is most likely when he gets stuck in crazy traffic.
As for the high-points, I get to share a poem I wrote with you (Link below). Then also, I was able to read some pages of the current book I'm reading in the jam.
The book's title is Leadership Principles for Graduates by John C. Maxwell (2nd time this year I'm reading it though).

A particular page in the book got me and I'd share with you. Before I do that, one of the things I learnt/re-learnt is that success is created one day at a time.
So here's the page in the book of a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

"To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
to leave the world a little better;
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is the meaning of success."
Really simple words that convey a wonderful perspective of how success should be viewed.
I wish you all a great weekend!

Do you believe in Paying Tithes?

Happy New Month to you all!
More blessings are definitely coming your way this September by God's grace.(Amen)

hmm...by the way Blogger's new interface is quite interesting. The orange interface is kinda shouting though.

I was a lil unimpressed with Linda Ikeji's post this morning. Why?

It's okay to have reasons for not doing certain things but I believe if you're going to provide any information on anything, it should be with valid facts with data to support it.
Saying you won't pay tithes because most churches use the money in building schools which are expensive to attend and totally unaffordable for the common man is totally an excuse in my own opinion.

But then again, I tried to see from her perspective and could actually understand what she meant a bit. But I personally don't consider that enough reason. The fees posted on her blog are totally wrong! At least for one of the schools I'm 100% sure of. But that is by the way.

So I decided to throw it open to hear from various perspectives. Please share your opinion on Tithing.

  1. Do you believe in it?
  2. Why exactly do you pay tithes if you believe in it?
  3. If you learnt tomorrow of misappropriation of funds generated from Tithe-payer's money in your church, would you stop paying?

Why I've been off...

I had a discussion with a friend today and in the midst of it, I was asked why I've been off blogging for a while. After trying to give excuses, I was told to consider my readers.

I'm going to tell you why I've been off here. No excuses. Just as it is.

I think it would be safe to call it a mild case of 'Writer's block'. I had many ideas on what to write but just never got to convert them to words for reasons I can't explain.
But then again, its no good reason to leave you all hanging.
Myne's article made my guilt conscience worsen when I now read her post on Abandoned Blogs; though I know this blog wasn't that bad like that nah.

Remember that tough exam I talked about in this post. After  months of preparation, God made it a success.
I was totally inundated with the stress and anxiety from all that preparation. It's over now by His grace.

Look out for better things this September.
Happy Id-El Fitri to my Muslim friends!
Enjoy the holidays!

I'm so fit!

I was forming fitness expert this morning surprisingly.

Woke up 4:30am, did my devotion (spiritual fitness)

Skipped for 5-7 minutes (that's a lot for me o!)

took 3 full glasses of water.

ran my bath water and went back to read my bible. Checked my mails and now I'm blogging (It's 5:37am)

After this, I will skip again and drink 3 extra glasses before my commute to work. But BOY DO I FEEL FIT!

Exercise is really good I tell you. Everyone knows that but only few like me actually do it daily.

Well, August is really jam-packed for me and I have 2 big things coming up this month asides a very tough exam I'm taking. Amidst all the prep, I'd try not to leave you guys hanging. AS in! I haven't written any story or articles in weeks! I'll get my rhythm back, I promise.
Now off to my morning activities! Have a nice day y'all. God bless you!

***P.S.: I came back to add this. Just finished Round 2 skipping and I feel smarter than ever***
So here's my question for you. I was given this question in an interview.

A brick weighs 1kg plus half a brick. How much does a brick weigh?

(All the parameters you need are there in the question and don't bother saying 1.5kg cuz that would be incorrect. I'll post the answer soon. No cheating o.)

mikesfrequency is 1! *fireworks*

365 days of grace and grandeur...TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

August 1st 2010 was the launch date of mikesfrequency blog and a year after, it's been splendid.
It definitely wasn't the niceness of the notes but YOU guys that made us cool!

So what motivated us to start?
I read inspiring notes on blogs like Myne Whitman Writes, Tolu Akanni's blog which inspired me a lot at the time. Then I thought...let's give it a shot. The response was awesome. From private commendation notes on Facebook to open comments. But something tells me we're still evolving.

We don't know what it is, or what it can be, we just know mikesfrequency is cool! Thanks to you!

Did you know?
> mikesfrequency came on air 29th of June, 2010 but became official on August 1st, 2010?
> mikesfrequency is a composition of 5 different blogs? (Check the address whenever you click on the page links)
> searching for the word 'tatashe' on Google and clicking on the 1st link leads you to our page?
> we have been listed on Information Nigeria website?
> you were a part of the success story?!!!

THANKS!

Give-away is still on ooo. I'm sorry this is coming late.
A total of 6 entries were received for the Poetry Contest and mikesfrequency's panel of judges are thoroughly scrutinizing each entry on the backend.
The winner will be announced tomorrow August 2nd, 2011 at 2100 GMT

Watch out for tomorrow's package.

Editing is also underway for the audio shout-outs and the solo release. Don't miss out!

I LOVE YOU ALL! Keep 'em traffic pouring in.

Full pending gist + BLOG GIVE-AWAY!

As I earlier promised, I'll be giving you the gist of the function I attended. Well, it was the Commencement ceremony that took place at my alma mater. Not mine though, but I had to go celebrate with all my friends.
It was quite fun all through; though a few hitches alongside, but that can't be compared to the fact that I got to see a lot of people whom I had only known over the internet.

To all the peeps I met, it was such a great pleasure!
Special people like the editor of Lowla Dee.com, (see picture below). Her stories always inspire me a lot!
Mikesfrequency meets LowlaDee.com

Not leaving out some key friends in my life. They always motivate me to be dissatisfied with 'good enough'.
(Left-Right) Me, Kenny & T. Babs...Friends to keep.
I've come to know that friends really play a vital role in our lives, consciously or unconsciously. You can't rule that out.

The ambiance of the new lecture theatre was irresistibly beautiful that I just had to upload the picture. I really see Nigerian Varsity education going forward.
Sweet learning room

And to the people who walked up to me to tell me how they enjoyed visiting the blog...I'm honoured and I won't stop sharing by God's grace.
Now to the main thing!

Back from my lil break

Hello everyone. Yes, I was away to attend a function as stated in my last post. I have loads of juicy gist for you all but it's quite late now and I must rest.
I intend to give you full details and pictures of the highlights of all that happened.
You know when people you barely knew before walk up to you and say, "Michael, I follow your blog and it's really nice!", all you can do is just be humbled and fired-up to do more.
Also I met Lowla Dee in person at the event. YAY!

I opened a new chapter in my green note today.
On it these are the words inscribed boldly on a full page.

iPLAN...   iPRESS...   iPURSUE...   iPROSPER
Moving forward with God

I probably do not know what it means yet but I'm by the grace of God re-strategising.

A big shoutout to D-i of 'Apples to Cross'. Thanks for dedicating a post to us at mikesfrequency.

Stay tuned and watch this space for full gist download.
Love you all. I mean it!

Wisdom of elders

Wadup blogsville and readers alongside.
Okay, It's strange that I'm blogging now cuz I'm supposed to be preparing for something which comes up tomorrow Friday but nothing spoil. I'm enjoying it.

I've been promising heaven and earth about a Solo and I have decided to do it!
*applause* *drumroll* Hehehe.

Straight to business, I'd just like to drop a nugget for the weekend.
But before I do remember to check the Trending link below for a hot new poem by a featured writer on mikesfrequency. Feedback will be appreciated.

Now check out this comment by someone on an article I read sometime. Don't just read fast (be patient), absorb the wisdom in the letters.

''I love this story to the extent that it brings to the fore the importance of know - how as well as experience. Some of us labour all day at problems which can otherwise be resolved by more knowledgeable and experienced persons because we believe we are qualified. The institutional / memory knowledge lies with key members of staff and it is within easy reach by all of us if we would have the humility to tap into it...''
Does that sound like you? Sounds like me anyways. Sometimes I just want to find out things on my own but then I've realized the benefits in the wisdom of elders. Their knowledge might be 'ancient' but ever relevant.
Mentors too...they make your journey easier cuz they've been there, done that.
I hope this blessed you. Now check out the piece below(Click the link).
