Michael's keyboard (3) - Homeward bound

Hi again! Missed me? Today's talk is based on something that happened over the weekend.

So on this beautiful day, he wanted to have a haircut. You know, that nice trim and friction from a skilled barber.
He calls his barber friend to know if he's around. Oops! No show!
Hair starts itching as usual when it has overgrown and he begins to scratch and scratch as he buries his head into his PC and gets immersed in another dose of serious work.

The issue is not with the scratching but my main issue gangan are those coins and gems that are rendered homeless and left lying on the keyboard.

He eventually leaves his room. 7 minutes 41 secs later he's at Mega Plaza (in VI). *raising hat to OKADA* Cheers!

He stops over at Leke Alder store and smiles at how awesome a brand Leke has become. A true consultant indeed.
"I have to become a brand myself", he thinks. "I should stop biking". After trying to make a business case for why cabs are better compared to bikes in his head, he arrives at barbing salon.

The place looks so nice. Hand in pocket, he walks to the attendant. This is the true test of personal branding...he thought again.
Patapata, he guessed he will barb with N500 na.

Morning mad'm, I wanna have my hair cut.
N2500 sirr, she replied.
He smiled. For the clipper?!! he asked in amazement.

The true test of branding...thought flashes across again. What will Leke Alder do in this case? He will barb of course.
Michael starts pinching himself hard as she shows him to a sit. Kai! N2500
Suddenly she says...The barber is not around yet sir. Would you like to wait or come back later?

I could imagine tears of joy flowing from his eyes.
OH DON'T Worry MAD'M, I can always 'check back'.

With so much alacrity he walked out of mega plaza, before the barber appears to his dismay.
Anyway, there's something called 'selective Amnesia'!

Hope Michael doesn't get to see this sha. That is one of his gist I spilled. plus I hear he'll be coming home fully very soon. Quite sad for me. I just hope I can tell you more stuffs in another post, else, this might be the last for the year from Michael's Keyboard. *sniff*

Michael Keyboard 2 (A frustrated episode)

Sssshhh...(hushed tones). He is officially pissed!

One month away from home. I actually pity him now. I didn't before.
I heard him once discuss with his friend how he misses blogging, his little niece and neph, his family, his bed, his...phew, the list is endless.

News has it, he'll be on this project till the end of DECEMBER!!!
I've never seen him under pressure like this before that.

Well, enough of all the pitying, before I continue here is a mail he got from a friend that I stole for you to read *wink*

Dear woman
I am very happy to inform you that I
have had feelings for you since Monday, 9th of December 2011. With
reference to the meeting held between us on the 6th of December 2011 at 19h00, I would like to present myself as a prospective lover.
Our love affair would be on probation
for a period of three months and,
depending on our compatibility, would
be made permanent. Of course, upon
completion of probation, there will be
continuous on-the-relationship training
and relationship appraisal schemes,
leading up to promotion from lover to
spouse.
The expenses incurred for coffee and
entertainment would initially be shared
equally between us. Later, based on
your performance, I might take up a
larger share of the expenses. However,
I am broad-minded enough to be taken
care of on your expense account. I
request that you kindly respond within
30 days of receiving this letter, failing
which, this offer will be cancelled
without further notice and I shall be
considering someone else. I would be
happy if you could forward this letter to
your sister if you do not wish to take up
this offer.
Thanking you in anticipation.
The man in love

OFF I GO!
He's coming!

Michael's Keyboard (1)

Hi Dear Reader,

This is Michael's keyboard. Since He has refused to use me, I now have a mind of my own. I'm fed up of being used for typing some annoying scripts and memos and stuff that I care the least about.

I wonder why you even bother to read the junk he writes about. I think I write better than him. At least so far, I haven't been that bad and I'm making you smile. He hardly does that.
Yeah right! Don't be deceived by the Humor page, I could do better.

So you think I'm crazy. Uh un! Who's the one reading some random message from a ...keyboard???
Hahahahaha...

Well for the fact that you got to this point shows that I'm not boring. So I'm fun right? I'm about to round up now...

Aha! That created a sad feeling in you. Didn't it? Say the truth common. We don't have to have it all together everytime. You know...those crazy moments. When you just wanna forget being serious and do something silly or just let out your inner child. Yeeeaahhh. This moment. Urrgh...Now I'm starting to sound like him.

Truth is I'm very pissed with him. He just gets so immersed in work and forgets he has a life outside that. Mtcheew. Sure you never heard a keyboard hiss. Like mtcheewwww. That felt gewd.

So he's been away on some project or something like that for over 2 weeks now. Misses his family I think and you guys too. But I'll be communicating with you guys in His absence to tell you of any gist he can't share himself.

So we can be friends right? Anyways you don't have an option cuz we're stuck till he gets back to his relaxed self.

Why do you blog?

Hi there peoples!

I've been crawling over blogs since reading interesting posts from Submission in marriage to pictures from Beijing to honesty in business. Everyone has something to say. Surprisingly I don't or I will very soon.

I decide I'm going to talk about why I started blogging and what I hope to achieve so far.

The basic reason was to showcase my little articles from my journals to a larger audience. I remember one time I was experiencing a bad day in school then. I went to the library to read and discovered that I forgot my ID card, went back to the room (a long distance to the library) to get my ID card and discovered my room key was in my bag...in the library.

So I walk back to pick up key from bag and walk back to room and back to the library again. Boy, was I mad!

I remember I picked up a pen and wrote...I wrote and I wrote. It was a poem on how frustrated I was with some really nice rhymes.

So next day in class, I showed some friends in class and they loved it. I was encouraged and started writing more.

So, why do I blog?

Before I talk about that, I must really say, I'm really impressed with the rise of Nigerian bloggers. I have my favourite ones which I keep track of with Google Reader. It alerts me when there are new posts and organizes them in an easily readable form.

So I basically blog for purposes of showcasing my short stories (which I haven't been consistent with), to know that long when I'm gone, people can still refer to it to draw inspiration, laughter or simply get ideas.Another reason is also to enjoy the art of other people. These days blogs are more current than newspapers and that is a big shift.

So why do you blog? What do you intend to attain via blogging?

I'd love to learn from you.

P.S. What's the best solution to writer's block? Have you experienced it and how did you overcome?

Slight glitch + A word to share

I just had to do a sharp one before I go to bed.

Sure you noticed that our blog was disabled recently by Google for some weird reasons (unusual activity according to them).

Special thanks to Relentless whom I sent a mail when I noticed. She was very helpful.

Today was a cool day. Bit tired though. Have to sleep now. Will gist you of all the juicy stuff I have in mind.
By the way, Myne really shared something useful on blog/website Page Ranking and I know it'll be helpful.

I remember this blog took 3 days to build and a bulk of it was spent on researching on SEO Optimization, blog ranking and other stuff. There's nothing more interesting as getting wide readership for your art.

I learnt something during word study over the break and I want to share with you.

The thin line between a believer and an unbeliever is in Ownership
What do you claim ownership for.
If it is your life, then tendency is you live it as you please.
But when you know, your life isn't yours but sold out to God, relinquishing all claim...then you know you can't do as you please but as is required.
It's way deeper than that but I just thought to share on a high-level.
Until the point where you relinquish claim of all (money, life, time, energy, etc), then you are taking a great step of a True believer.

Remember Paul's words...To live is Christ, to die is gain.
Relinquishing all claims is death...to self.

Before I go, I have 2 questions for you.
If a Re-Insurance company insures risks for an Insurance company, who now Insures the Re-insurance company?

Secondly, I saw this on Twitter, If a blogger marries another blogger, is it proper to invite the people in the Comments section?

New blogger on the block+Versatile Blogger award+Special note to her

This is definitely the longest title you've seen here. Just feeling lazy.
Thank God for this day. I'm very happy to write something tonight cuz I initially wasn't feeling in the mood to write. Dunno what's up today...maybe I'm just tired jere.

So I got a mail today from a new blogger on the block...Victor Ugo who blogs at------>This nice page and I thought it appropriate to introduce him to y'all. SHOW SOME LOVE as you always do. I trust you guys. Please visit and drop a comment or just leave traces to encourage him.
I personally liked this poem from the little I read.

*******************************************
On to the next, okay I've been thinking of something...that will come towards the end of this post.
Just want to say a big THANK YOU! to Honeydame for giving us this awesome Versatile Blogger Award.
And that little note you wrote too...Thanks a milli!

So here are the ground rules:
The Rule: Link the person/people who awarded you
                  Write 7 things/facts about you
Award 15 new blogs you discovered and find a way to inform them
Rule 1...check
Now onto the second rule:

I did something similar for the 'One Lovely Blog' award given to us by RelentlessBuilder.

7 things'facts about me (I'll try to make it different from the last)
1. I eat my last meal of the day by 5pm most times. Okay, wait a minute here, note I said most times. Thing is when I get home, appetite is usually gone*raising hat for Lagos traffic*. So I just drink water and carry on into the night till I sleep. So far, it has helped me to a large extent cuz I wake up feeling light and refreshed most times.

2. I wash everyday. Not like I can't stand dirty clothes but I guess it's a habit. Even if I get home midnight, I still wash it latest by the next morning before wearing any new one.

3. Whatever you do, don't ever touch my nose! I will just sneeze for hours. which is why I hate dust (remember the last time).

4. On seeing me, you'd think I'm from the South-South or some tribe. My name helps in misleading too but I speak Yoruba fluently and can spice it with a lil proverb, I can read a Yoruba bible and be translating in English for you while reading and can write a full letter in Yoruba complete with the tone marks!

5. I love teaching. Or should I say I love people listening to me. No lemme explain.
I like that scenario where I stand in front of a gathering to pass across knowledge or information or directions and them listening. Teaching provides that avenue, Consulting provides that too, etc.

6. When I'm pissed, I talk very slooowly in a formal tone and a stern look on my face. My accent changes and I speak like I'm counting my words. The annoying good part is once I let it out or smile, that's it.

7. I want to have a CCIE certification in the next 2 years(really tough nut).

Rule No 3 is where the wahala is o. Kai 15 bloggers I just discovered. I'll mention a few.

Spare the rod?

So I hear we're now 7 billion on earth and not just that. Every 3 years, we'll be increasing by 1 billion. hmm...God help us all...with all these gist of ozone layer depletion and even the increasing natural disasters all over.
I pray peace for the people of Turkey (earthquake) and Thailand (floods) and I thank God we only have to worry about Fuel subsidy over here.

Okay, I actually have been looking of a way to explain how/why I didn't take pictures on my birthday. But I have some that I took after that anyways. I just got the cake today so I should take some pictures after church today.

So yesterday o, I was doing my laundry washing clothe jejely and thinking when my little ones burst in and started laughing mischievously. After much persuasion, I got to know mumsy just told them tales of the cane treatment I received whenever I was naughty in those days.
Shout-out to all of you that chopped cane well in your growing days!*raising hat*
And for those who didn't...You must be from heaven!

All of you are now grown men and women in this age of gadgets and also aspiring parents now. Proud of you all.The bible was right. Spare the rod and spoil the child.

I personally think the 'rod' can be in various forms sha, not necessarily cane. Cane made me wish I was American mehn! I would watch those American kids on TV back then and they'd be like "Oh mum, I don't agree wichu! That a'int right'
The thing was so annoying that I'll just imagine me in that situation. Truth is even my imagination no get liver to imagine o. There were various forms of punishment I've witnessed.
I thank God I never witnessed things like  Koboko (I would have fainted on even sighting it back then), palm slippers and belt (can't really remember this one).

But talk of the legendary Cane a.k.a 'Pankere' or Egba or Mr-Do-Good or Morning tea (my class teacher's adaptation...I disliked that man ehn!)
I think I should write a poem on it sef.

That thing shaped me into a fine disciplined young man. It was the language that brought back sanity. The wisdom behind those strokes as they whizzed through the air and landed on your butt and defied Newton's 3rd law.
The annoying thing was that it was always in our sitting room then - within reach.
On one occasion this boy gained liver and went to hide it. Then the day of reckoning came!

I had just misbehaved.
"Where is 'IT?", I heard her echo
"What ma?" I asked with an innocent look.
"Ehen...Okay...I'll be back!"...came the response.

Come and see confession...after which I even brought extra from the past hidden loots.
'Coming back ke?' Who in his right senses waits for that to happen LOL!

Sure you're enjoying this. I think I've gotta sleep now. Church dey tomorrow o.

But really children of nowadays need more discipline cuz the exposure is more these days...BB, Internet, Degrading Media, the list is endless.

I think we who are aspiring to be parents someday or who are parents already should pay more attention to the friends our children keep, the things they watch and build a strong sense of purpose in them so that even when they get confronted with the chance to err...it will be too late cuz of the sound training they've received from home. Let's not let our children be affected by our laziness and selfishness. There's a repercusssion.
May God help us all. Amen!

The greatest day ever in October!

They say there are 2 most important days in a man's life...
The day he is born...and the day he discovers why he was born.

Today marks the anniversary of one of those days...MY BIRTHDAY!
Oya all you October people kneel down nah lemme bless you!

Shoutout to my birthday mate, friend, blogsville mentor, sister...in fact she's tooo much!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MYNE WHITMAN!!! YAY!
I truly respect you. Your spirit is awesome. She's kind enough to drop comments and to think of how she manages to do that for hundreds of blogs is just amazing! Nkem you're the best!

This post was scheduled since Sunday nite/Monday morning so I hope what I'll tell you in this post won't change. Talking of how I'll spend the day.

It's definitely a special day and all I can say is I'm a recipient of some in-explanable grace from God. So here's how I plan to spend it.
- I'll pray into my birthday (been doing that for a while now)
- I'll fast on that day(today I mean!). (at least till 12noon, cuz enough people will so beat me if I extend longer than that)
- I'll reflect.
- Most importantly, I'LL ENJOY EVERY BIT OF TODAY! It's worth it and more.

I've made great decisions and I've grown. I've made decisions that hurt me but I've grown. I've grown stronger with each day. I've grown to know God never leaves you clueless. He knows my every weakness and strengthens those areas.

I've made a couple of good friends over time, lost a few. All in all, I've grown to know that time is fleeting. I've grown to know that forgiveness is the fragrance the flower leaves on the heels of the one who crushed it. I've grown to know how to forgive and respect. I've grown to be conscious of associations and reflect on the past good deeds. I've grown to love. I've grown to know how to smile when the heat is high. I've grown to follow my passion. I've grown to learn the power of words in moulding.

I've grown to know how to get on my knees. I've grown to know how to cry to/before God, to lay flat and drop all the burden at His pierced feet. I've grown to feel His pierced hands touch my heart to feel 'that peace'. I've also grown to know that I have to keep growing always. Thank you Lord!!!

To all who have made my online sojourn a fun-ride...Ya'll too gbaski!!! LOL!

Counting down to the D-Day + 100th post

And this marks my 100th post on this homepage!
That's rather small compared to the number of days this blog has been up for. God help us.

Okay, I just finished scheduling a post for my most important day in October. Mehn, there so much bloggers born in October o. Sisi_Yemmie, Myne Whitman and a couple of others.

I've been a bit occupied daily but I'll still try to make out time so I don't leave you hanging.
I noticed a bit of relaxation in blogsville. My Google reader justs shows me a few updates this days and a few bloggers have been inactive. Please o, you can like to write more jor! (See me talking sef).

Okay seriously no more cameos. Write and let us read, okay. Don't wait to have it all put together. Pleae make out time and do what you do best.

So its 2 days to the D-day and I'm just elated! Thank you Lord! You guys should watch this space for some juicy stuff. Have a great week!

What would you do?

This will be a short post. Quite exhausted after a long day and just concluded writing this new piece in the trending now topic.
Missed you guys like plenty!

Chai...1am already! Oya make I blog this one sharparly.

So here's a quick question for all. When you are extremely pissed, what do you do?
Before you answer, let me paint you a scenario.

It's Sunday morning, a beautiful one at that. You decided to wear that lovely starched white native. The urban breeze gently caresses your skin as the blue sky invites the early morning sun. Birds are kind to sing sweet notes to complement the distant sound of your church piano (Kai...nna see drama o).
Then all of a sudden...!

Gengen gengen!
Mad Danfo driver honks his horn as he speeds towards your direction to avoid a port hole the rain had earlier concealed. His name should be Sule or a variation of it.
Then...SPLASH! Into the porthole and your White native is decorated with mud. Arrgh! Danfo driver screeches, halts and gets down from the bus. Instead of apologizing, he says, "You no dey see road?!"

What would you do? Be honest o, no forming.

Same message twice + One Lovely Blog Award

I'm so motivated right now. I mean every thing just sent me that clear message today. I woke up feeling like I needed to make some corrections which I couldn't figure out (tough one, right?)

Today was different in a way. I checked through what could have been the potential causes. No clues.
I guess some days are just like that or maybe not. Anyways after all, I decided to share with you what I learnt today from Victor Cheng on dealing with overcoming rejection.

Can I cope?

That has been the question these past weeks. As I told you in my previous posts, I've been on a busy schedule this past week and its been hectic to say the least.

I hardly have time to think to write and that scares me. I mean whatever drains that much isn't worth it in my own opinion but then again, you don hear wetin them dey call DETERMINATION!
I refuse to be overwhelmed, lailai! So imagine a schedule of 8am-6pm where you then spend 3hours in Lagos traffic, get home tired and can't even eat and just hit the bed for another cycle of routine duties. HIA! Not me.

This is my schedule and I have decided to allow it work in my favour. How?
The word is 'Maximize'. I think the mind is a great asset which I never joke with.

Apart from our innate abilities to adapt to situations, a spicy addition of Determination goes a long way. Imagine spending 3 hours in traffic daily. In a month, that's how much? For 20 days, we have 60 hours.(Tell me I've started again with numbers) Yes ooo. Time is Life. We waste time, we waste life. Back to the gist.

I finished a book in a month of my time spent in traffic. I notice that when I plan the time, I maximize it. Its only when you have a poor mindset that you think 'that thing' cannnot be done.
But let me share things that are worth spending your time on:

- Quiet time with God
- Things that advance your life purpose
- Time invested in helping others
- Things you've always wanted to do or are scared of doing.

The 1st is very important to start your day. I mean...it only makes sense to acknowledge the one who gave you the life to even get up from your bed every morning. If you've had a break in this area, I encourage you to please continue. You'll be shocked at how refreshed you'll feel the whole day. So that's all folks.

P.S. I will still publish that post on unemployment. Already reached half-way.

Into the new week+Ironies

I wish you all an awesome week ahead!
Well, I will be posting the Ironies as promised. I'm already counting down to the end of the 3-week program.

I wanted to post something yesterday but got so engrossed in reading the latest debate that has caused heated arguments in Blogsville. *SMH* It's quite controversial so to say but I still think if you want to seek people's opinions on a matter, then why go ahead to castigate them for giving their own 2 cents. Nuff said on that.

So while checking and replying to comments here yesterday, I was told by RB11 (Relentless2011) in one of the comments to expantiate on my views on the Job situation in Nigeria. In line with that request, I just did an opinion poll on FB on the matter. I should put something together soon. And now the ironies of life:

- A man without a job craves for one; the one with a job needs a break.

- The poor want to be rich; the rich crave for a simple life.

- The unpopular want fame; the famous need their private lives badly.

- This one gets at me: The proud pray to be humble; the humble are proud of their humility. LOL!

- This one reminds me of why I shouldn't be in a haste and make every moment count:
The young at heart want to be mature and grow older; the old and wise long again for their youthful days.

- The single want to get married, have kids in a big house; the married are tired of the big house, rather, a big home matters.

So just in all we do, let's remember to make the little minutes count. Success is an everyday thing. Love you guys.

Borrow borrow+ Trade Offs (Final)

Blogging from a borrowed PC/Modem. ARRGGHH!!!

Anyways, while on my way to the programme I told you about, my thoughts drifted a bit to some ironies of life.
You know those moments when you just start having doubts about decisions you're about to make and all. MY final resolve was to Let Go and Let God, cuz on my own, I'll just mess things up.

I wrote them down in my 'big notepad' since I couldn't type at that point. At the same time I was just thinking of what I've missed so far from my longest disconnection from cyberspace. It's quite a lot ooo.

- My daily John Maxwell videos
- Consulting Tips and Guideline mails from the famous Victor Cheng
- Project Mgt Newsletters and Forum Discussions from professionals
- My Google Reader, Blogsville...arggh! Don't bother analyzing. A lot!

At some points in our lives, the most valuable assets will be our PCs. It's a big shift and though I'm really a strong proponent of being IT-savvy, I also believe things should be done in moderation.
Heard of a certain story of a Pastor that wanted to preach and was about to do so, only to discover that his I-Pad had frozen.
So for 20 minutes, they battled to restore it before the message could begin.

Remember those days when they say wave your bibles in the air?
Hmmm...you will then see bibles of all sorts. Neat ones (note, I didn't say 'New' ooo), Tattered ones, Coffee-stained ones, Battered and Dog-eared ones. But now, things haf shange, we raise up Tablets, Smartphones, I-Pods...even my Nokia 7610 back then can boast of being among Intelligent phones too. It had one bible app like that. When you type 'Genesis', it loads fast o, but if you mistakenly type 'Exodus', you will have to wait for the Israelites to leave Egypt and come back. LOL! It will load ehn! hmm...Let me just concentrate on today's post.

I'll post the Ironies of Life in my next post. I just remembered I haven't finished my series on Trade-offs. I finished the book by the way.
Hoping to squeeze in some time in between the 3-week busy period to read another book (The Man God Uses). I feel I need to 'absorb' (my term for reading a book twice over) the book.

7) TRADE SECURITY FOR SIGNIFICANCE

The great men and women of history were great not because of what they owned or earned, but because they gave their lives to accomplish greatness.

8) TRADE ACCEPTABLE FOR EXCELLENCE
If somethng is worth doing, either give it your best or don't do it at all.

9) TRADE ADDITION FOR MULTIPLICATION

When you invest in others, you multiply your efforts - every person you assist becomes a fellow workmate

10) TRADE AMBITION FOR GRATITUDE
Anyone who succeeds does so because of the help and grace of others. Be grateful for everything you have, and share it with others.

I hope you picked something?

Will tell you about the Ironies I observed in my next post. Join me same time same station next week.
I want to add a nice ending like my favourite radio station does before & after every news programme(won't tell you which :-D). Here goes:
"Help keep the world green, support efforts to protect animals and nature...Plant a tree today"

Incommunicado

I guess I must have offended someone with the hair analysis in my last post. I'm on my knees ooo.:-))

So immediately I put up the post, my Internet connection went offline. I did the basic restarting of the modem and PC. No show. I then resolved to put my techie skills to work. Went to my Windows Host file to return some tweaked settings to the default. No show. By then, I was vexed, a little PC trying to intimidate me. lailai.

Then I started an in-depth network troubleshooting. Checked my proxy server settings, manually configured the Windows dialup settings to sync with my modem. No show. Hia! I then started suspecting higher powers at work. You know, the kind that is against any hair post/analysis. LOL, u would know why soon.

I checked my Antivirus settings and discovered it was actually expired. *hiss* how could I have missed an obvious detail. So I checked the firewall and network settings on it and found out they were actually disabled. Phew! Finally. I overcame those anti-hair-post powers. Lol!
So I tried uninstalling it, I did not see it at all in my list of installed programs. Haa! I then rebooted my PC into 'Safe Mode' by pressing 'F8' at the boot screen, manually deleted the antivirus folder and all resemblances of it. HAHAHA! In your face!

Happily, I restarted my baby to gist you guys of my victory...

It started up...

Showed the boot screen...

And after waiting for the longest seconds of that night...

It showed the 'Blue Screen'. My PC had crashed!!!

So I'm currently going to be incommunicado for a brief period till I fix my PC+ I'll be on a three week program me. Argghhh!
I put up this post from a very unusual location. Currently blogging from 'Cafelicious' and just had a nice meal. It just goes on to confirm the fact that I love blogging/writing. Maybe I'll upload pictures for you to see or maybe not. hope to blog soon though.

Hair matters + Trade-offs in Life 2

Today was quite interesting as I learnt something new, how to loosen attachments from braided hair. YAY! :-))
Twas quite fun but very tiring at a point. I mean why would I loosen a long braid only to discover just little hair attached.

No wonder women spend plenty hours at the salon. Na wa!
Think of it, I heard ooo and I still don't want to believe that Ghana weaving could take 8-12 hours! ISI GINI???

Let's do some Math here.
Assuming Lady A does hair for 10 hours (2 night's sleep), which can be, say, once a month.
In a year, that's 120 hours! = Three 40-hour working weeks. Hm.

Now let's do a comparison.
How long does it take for Guy A to barb his hair?
Trimming afro- 30 minutes
Friction alone - 10 mins
Barb+Friction+Treatment - 35 mins max.

So by the time 19 guys haf barber dia hair...Hm!
I challenge you all to try LOW-CUT, you know, the African-Queen concept. LOL!

WHO WATCHED BARRACK OBAMA's SPEECH on Job Stimulus Plan. It was really nice.
Imagine this analysis that Warren Buffett pays lesser tax than an average secretary. hmmm.

So we shall continue the second part of our series of 10 trade-offs that are worth making in life. Hope you pick something.

4) TRADE IMMEDIATE PLEASURE FOR PERSONAL GROWTH
An oak tree requires decades to grow but a Squash only takes weeks. Which do you want to be?

5) TRADE EXPLORATION FOR FOCUS
The younger you are, the more experimenting you should do. But once you've found what you were created to do, stick with it.

6) TRADE QUANTITY OF LIFE FOR QUALITY OF LIFE

Your life is not a dress rehearsal. Give it your best because you won't get another chance.

Trade-offs in Life 1

I'm supposed to put up a post soon on this current job situation in Nigeria. The inspiration hit me while brushing today and I just kept pushing it forward.
Its very easy and logical for one to say there's no job in Nigeria.
Its one thing to get a job and its another thing to like the job. If you now get a job you like, that's a rare case.

I personally believe it's a problem of packaging and the mentality of a typical Nigerian graduate. Well, I'd just share these nuggets from the book I'm currently reading with you.

It talks about TEN Trade-offs worth making in life. I'll share 3 with you now...Stay tuned for the rest.
These are excerpts from Leadership Principles for Graduates by John C. Maxwell.

1. TRADE THE FIRST HALF FOR THE SECOND HALF
Much of the first half of life is spent paying the price for later success. The greater dues you pay now, the more they compound, and the greater the potential for a successful second half.

2. TRADE AFFIRMATION FOR ACCOMPLISHMENT
Accolades fade quickly, but your accomplishments have the potential to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

3. TRADE FINANCIAL GAIN FOR FUTURE POTENTIAL
The potential is almost always to go for the "big bucks." But seeking to have greater potential almost always leads to a higher return - including financially.

I hope you picked something?
(Will post the rest later)

Also, I found this heart-rendering story on LI's blog and I decided to throw it open to others that haven't seen it. It's the story of a young lady, Kemi, with Colon cancer that needs your urgent help. You can help save a life!

The remaining pictures + BB pressure

As I talked about here on the pictures for the Creative Writing session for the students, they're below.
The pressure to get a BB has never been more than now like its a requirement to breathe or what sef.

At work, there's phone-seizure threat by my friends if I don't get one ASAP.
Even FB. LOL!
Okay I will get one soon before the year runs out.
Before the pictures, let me share a short wonderful video from one of the people I rub minds with regularly through books and media like this; speaking of John C. Maxwell. ENJOY!

Latest happenings

Quite sad, I was supposed to do a round yesterday but my internet subscription ended without me noticing.

So it's been really nice this past week.
But before I go on, I'd like to wish a wonderful sister, friend and fellow blogsville neighbour a Happy birthday; speaking of Dolapo Adeleke (Lowla Dee). She's really inspired me with her stories times without number and she is also the Chairperson of a recently launched Monthly Writing competition, tagged 'PEN IT' in which I'm privileged to be part of the panel. It kicks off September 7th, 2011 and hopes to feature about 12 upcoming writing talents anually.

Also, I recently took part in a workshop/Leadership programme for Secondary Schools and it was awesome.
Nigerian youths really need a lot of 'working on'.
There were different sections in the program such as Sex Education, Personal Development, Creative Writing, Car Design (yes, and the guy that took it was superb), Computer Literacy and a few others.
Well, you don't need to ask which one I featured in. Creative Writing nah!

I tell you point blank, Public/Government schools need overhauling but it was refreshing to know how enthusiastic these people are to learning.
So, we (a lady and I) talked about Writing basics, New forms of creative writing (blogging, Tweeting, etc) and had interactive sessions to hear them out. These kids want to learn but there's no one to teach them quality stuff.
Here are some of the pictures:
Bassey - Computer Literacy Facilitator

Sex Education Segment
Unfortunately, I'm still expecting the Creative Writing Session pictures. Will upload soon.
Everytime I remember these day, it only re-iterates the fact that Nigeria's Education Sector needs urgent reforms. I'm proud I'm going to be a part of it. It's a strong conviction.

My poem + highpoints

Okay, this was a late night one. Today was mixed; talking of high-points and low-points.
A typical Lagosian's low-point is most likely when he gets stuck in crazy traffic.
As for the high-points, I get to share a poem I wrote with you (Link below). Then also, I was able to read some pages of the current book I'm reading in the jam.
The book's title is Leadership Principles for Graduates by John C. Maxwell (2nd time this year I'm reading it though).

A particular page in the book got me and I'd share with you. Before I do that, one of the things I learnt/re-learnt is that success is created one day at a time.
So here's the page in the book of a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

"To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
to leave the world a little better;
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is the meaning of success."
Really simple words that convey a wonderful perspective of how success should be viewed.
I wish you all a great weekend!

Do you believe in Paying Tithes?

Happy New Month to you all!
More blessings are definitely coming your way this September by God's grace.(Amen)

hmm...by the way Blogger's new interface is quite interesting. The orange interface is kinda shouting though.

I was a lil unimpressed with Linda Ikeji's post this morning. Why?

It's okay to have reasons for not doing certain things but I believe if you're going to provide any information on anything, it should be with valid facts with data to support it.
Saying you won't pay tithes because most churches use the money in building schools which are expensive to attend and totally unaffordable for the common man is totally an excuse in my own opinion.

But then again, I tried to see from her perspective and could actually understand what she meant a bit. But I personally don't consider that enough reason. The fees posted on her blog are totally wrong! At least for one of the schools I'm 100% sure of. But that is by the way.

So I decided to throw it open to hear from various perspectives. Please share your opinion on Tithing.

  1. Do you believe in it?
  2. Why exactly do you pay tithes if you believe in it?
  3. If you learnt tomorrow of misappropriation of funds generated from Tithe-payer's money in your church, would you stop paying?

Why I've been off...

I had a discussion with a friend today and in the midst of it, I was asked why I've been off blogging for a while. After trying to give excuses, I was told to consider my readers.

I'm going to tell you why I've been off here. No excuses. Just as it is.

I think it would be safe to call it a mild case of 'Writer's block'. I had many ideas on what to write but just never got to convert them to words for reasons I can't explain.
But then again, its no good reason to leave you all hanging.
Myne's article made my guilt conscience worsen when I now read her post on Abandoned Blogs; though I know this blog wasn't that bad like that nah.

Remember that tough exam I talked about in this post. After  months of preparation, God made it a success.
I was totally inundated with the stress and anxiety from all that preparation. It's over now by His grace.

Look out for better things this September.
Happy Id-El Fitri to my Muslim friends!
Enjoy the holidays!

I'm so fit!

I was forming fitness expert this morning surprisingly.

Woke up 4:30am, did my devotion (spiritual fitness)

Skipped for 5-7 minutes (that's a lot for me o!)

took 3 full glasses of water.

ran my bath water and went back to read my bible. Checked my mails and now I'm blogging (It's 5:37am)

After this, I will skip again and drink 3 extra glasses before my commute to work. But BOY DO I FEEL FIT!

Exercise is really good I tell you. Everyone knows that but only few like me actually do it daily.

Well, August is really jam-packed for me and I have 2 big things coming up this month asides a very tough exam I'm taking. Amidst all the prep, I'd try not to leave you guys hanging. AS in! I haven't written any story or articles in weeks! I'll get my rhythm back, I promise.
Now off to my morning activities! Have a nice day y'all. God bless you!

***P.S.: I came back to add this. Just finished Round 2 skipping and I feel smarter than ever***
So here's my question for you. I was given this question in an interview.

A brick weighs 1kg plus half a brick. How much does a brick weigh?

(All the parameters you need are there in the question and don't bother saying 1.5kg cuz that would be incorrect. I'll post the answer soon. No cheating o.)

mikesfrequency is 1! *fireworks*

365 days of grace and grandeur...TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

August 1st 2010 was the launch date of mikesfrequency blog and a year after, it's been splendid.
It definitely wasn't the niceness of the notes but YOU guys that made us cool!

So what motivated us to start?
I read inspiring notes on blogs like Myne Whitman Writes, Tolu Akanni's blog which inspired me a lot at the time. Then I thought...let's give it a shot. The response was awesome. From private commendation notes on Facebook to open comments. But something tells me we're still evolving.

We don't know what it is, or what it can be, we just know mikesfrequency is cool! Thanks to you!

Did you know?
> mikesfrequency came on air 29th of June, 2010 but became official on August 1st, 2010?
> mikesfrequency is a composition of 5 different blogs? (Check the address whenever you click on the page links)
> searching for the word 'tatashe' on Google and clicking on the 1st link leads you to our page?
> we have been listed on Information Nigeria website?
> you were a part of the success story?!!!

THANKS!

Give-away is still on ooo. I'm sorry this is coming late.
A total of 6 entries were received for the Poetry Contest and mikesfrequency's panel of judges are thoroughly scrutinizing each entry on the backend.
The winner will be announced tomorrow August 2nd, 2011 at 2100 GMT

Watch out for tomorrow's package.

Editing is also underway for the audio shout-outs and the solo release. Don't miss out!

Full pending gist + BLOG GIVE-AWAY!

As I earlier promised, I'll be giving you the gist of the function I attended. Well, it was the Commencement ceremony that took place at my alma mater. Not mine though, but I had to go celebrate with all my friends.
It was quite fun all through; though a few hitches alongside, but that can't be compared to the fact that I got to see a lot of people whom I had only known over the internet.

To all the peeps I met, it was such a great pleasure!
Special people like the editor of Lowla Dee.com, (see picture below). Her stories always inspire me a lot!
Mikesfrequency meets LowlaDee.com

Not leaving out some key friends in my life. They always motivate me to be dissatisfied with 'good enough'.
(Left-Right) Me, Kenny & T. Babs...Friends to keep.
I've come to know that friends really play a vital role in our lives, consciously or unconsciously. You can't rule that out.

The ambiance of the new lecture theatre was irresistibly beautiful that I just had to upload the picture. I really see Nigerian Varsity education going forward.
Sweet learning room

And to the people who walked up to me to tell me how they enjoyed visiting the blog...I'm honoured and I won't stop sharing by God's grace.
Now to the main thing!

Back from my lil break

Hello everyone. Yes, I was away to attend a function as stated in my last post. I have loads of juicy gist for you all but it's quite late now and I must rest.
I intend to give you full details and pictures of the highlights of all that happened.
You know when people you barely knew before walk up to you and say, "Michael, I follow your blog and it's really nice!", all you can do is just be humbled and fired-up to do more.
Also I met Lowla Dee in person at the event. YAY!

I opened a new chapter in my green note today.
On it these are the words inscribed boldly on a full page.

iPLAN...   iPRESS...   iPURSUE...   iPROSPER
Moving forward with God

I probably do not know what it means yet but I'm by the grace of God re-strategising.

A big shoutout to D-i of 'Apples to Cross'. Thanks for dedicating a post to us at mikesfrequency.

Stay tuned and watch this space for full gist download.
Love you all. I mean it!

Wisdom of elders

Wadup blogsville and readers alongside.
Okay, It's strange that I'm blogging now cuz I'm supposed to be preparing for something which comes up tomorrow Friday but nothing spoil. I'm enjoying it.

I've been promising heaven and earth about a Solo and I have decided to do it!
*applause* *drumroll* Hehehe.

Straight to business, I'd just like to drop a nugget for the weekend.
But before I do remember to check the Trending link below for a hot new poem by a featured writer on mikesfrequency. Feedback will be appreciated.

Now check out this comment by someone on an article I read sometime. Don't just read fast (be patient), absorb the wisdom in the letters.

''I love this story to the extent that it brings to the fore the importance of know - how as well as experience. Some of us labour all day at problems which can otherwise be resolved by more knowledgeable and experienced persons because we believe we are qualified. The institutional / memory knowledge lies with key members of staff and it is within easy reach by all of us if we would have the humility to tap into it...''
Does that sound like you? Sounds like me anyways. Sometimes I just want to find out things on my own but then I've realized the benefits in the wisdom of elders. Their knowledge might be 'ancient' but ever relevant.
Mentors too...they make your journey easier cuz they've been there, done that.
I hope this blessed you. Now check out the piece below(Click the link).

On the Anniversary things

People of blogsville, I've run out of concepts o. Okay there's an audio shout-out thing I'm doing for our 1year Blog Aniversary. But I know it should be more than that. So I'm going to give you a low-down of what I have in mind.

1. The Audio Shout-out (ongoing)
2. Something to make you laugh
Now that number 2 has a lot of commas, cuz my reputation is at stake...okay maybe not sha.
For No 2. I plan to do a solo (2a) (as suggested by Relentless Builder). Hahahaha. In my croaky voice...
or do an audio blog post (2b) in Yoruba (so you think I'd let you laugh at me ehn?)
So which do you prefer???

These days I haven't been busy that much but I've been a bad manager of my time which I have looked into.
Back to creating my to-do list, sticking to it and cutting off unnecessary lapses in time usage.
My life is made up of the time I spend daily. If I waste it, I'm indirectly wasting my life. That's too costly/precious to experiment with I must say.

3. Last on the list is - Do a blog give-away which I don't know how to do and what to give.

Any nice ideas would be welcome please.
BTW...Watch out for something on the Humor page soon.

Nigerian Blog Awards Drama

So I thought within me that it would be very unfair not to talk about the awards ceremony. Live Tweeting at its best, people pulling off the 'Kanye West' as expected.

Support this cause.

Initially I wanted to do a blog post on the flooding in Lagos which has been quite a concern this past few days. Shortly after the decision, I decided to quickly scan through Linda Ikeji's blog which I do go to often and then I came across this post which I found quite disturbing at first. Disturbing because, I wondered how she still managed to smile through the pain after 77 surgeries!

It's a Fundraiser for Kechi Okwuchi, a former Loyola Jesuit student who was one of the two survivors of the 2005 Sosoliso plane crash.

Quoting Linda's blog:
"A devastating plane crash, over 60% intensive burns, up to five weeks in medically-induced coma and over 75 surgeries to date have not hampered the spirit of our friend, Kechi Okwuchi. She may have been terribly disfigured by the accident but Kechi’s determination and hope to achieve her dreams regardless, inspire us each day. We would like to share her story so that it may inspire you too.”

After the crash, Kechi was immediately transferred to South Africa for urgent treatment. Since she had to relearn to perform muscle movements, physical therapy followed when Kechi was in a more stable condition".
READ MORE about the story here and please be kind enough to donate through the details given. God bless as you do so.

WARNING: Images may be disturbing to viewers as they contain pre- and post-surgery pictures.
View information & photos of her condition.

...tired but hyper...???

I can't even think of a title for this post cuz I'm so tired...

To tell you how bad it is, I posted this first in the wrong page. *smh*

Today was sort of busier than normal. I should have posted this a few hours ago when I was still hyper. I just want to dedicate this post to thank God for what He did today for me. Little me.

You know those times when you think you're messing up in a corporate setting where optimum performance is required and He just comes up and cleans up your mess.

I THANK YOU JESUS!

Okay, so since ayam hyper but tired kinda (is that possible???) and I can't post a picture of me to show you how happy I am, let this guy in the video below express how I feel inside me right now.

I just want to tell you something that in all you do...remember that God has you in mind. So don't quit trying. No-one said the journey would be easy but in the end...after the story comes the glory.

Love you all!

Keep them votes coming also | @ moi frequency | 2 awards | Voting ends tomorrow.

Photoshoot Thursday

So I was an early bird today at work and I decided to explore. Inquisitive as I was, to say the least, I took the elevator to the last floor of the building. It's funny I've been in a place for a year and that place looked strange to me.
Twas actually evacuated and I sensed that a coy had moved out recently.

Na so I see one shiny door.
Ya... that was the door
It led to the roof and boy...was that breeze cool or what?!!

I sharply started my own photo-shoot...no time

The view made sense and I sorta felt happy cuz of the experience, the breeze and I think It might just be a nice hanging out spot during Lunch hours.
Bar-beach from my perspective
And that's him...Yea me.

But asides all these, It occured to me that I would have been confined to my cubicle downstairs unaware of the beautiful ambiance the scenery upstairs had to offer.

Move out of that norm and do something different for once. There's nothing as refreshing as a new experience. Larer y'all.

Wanna laugh>>>Here's the zone
P.S. If we win any award on the Blog Awards, should I do a Boyz II Men solo for you guys or I should post a Planking picture? HEHEHEHE!

I took this pic maself. Can you figure how???

Planking + other things

It's fun to blog these days and I actually have a write-up in mind on Parenting. I just did the plot of the story on my 'Notepad' on my PC but I'm too tired to write/type this night.

hmm...Mr Strass-Kahn in another alleged Rape suit. Its rather sad.
The rate at which scandals are being uncovered these days make one wonder sometimes what is going on.

Latest Planking News: Funke Akindele has also planked...on a bag of rice. *smh*
still *smh*

Okay, I thought of an idea today. Silly though.
I want to do a solo and upload it for you to hear. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!

Act like you never heard the last sentence. But I might actually and it will be next month (1st Anniversary-August 1st). Till I think of a better idea sha. That's all folks!

Windeck???

Okay what is the world turning to these days. First its planking, now Windeck.

First time I saw the video at an eatery, I laughed cuz the dancestep was silly. So 'Windeck' is a song from an Angolan musician by the name Cabo Snoop and its gaining crazy popularity these days. So out of curiosity, I searched for the term on google and this was what I found from a forum where some Angolans commented on the song.

Note the highlighted part
Well, thats not all, here's another...
From another forum
So my question is this...Does it make sense listening to a song that presents sex 'in this manner'? Children dance it, adults aren't left out. The sad part is stuffs like this spread more than the gospel itself.

Well, its rather sad. I watched a documentary recently on Abortion, titled, 12th & Delaware. It was absolutely touching and I thought to myself. Its all a chain reaction.

Media presents lustful contents, I watch and one day can't stand being a spectator. So I act. She gets the unwanted pregnancy which has to be removed. Abortion inevitable. Pardon me if I sound dramatic but its true. Anyways, God help us all.

Planking has gone viral!

So as I promised yesterday...oops! Day before yesterday I mean.

I have finished writing something for the humor page. Also check out the interviews if you haven't too. You can't afford to miss out na. Some laughter at least. But before you go on, I have a silent question.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT PLANKING???
It has gone viral as some will say. I visited a few blogs and laughed all I could.

Planking is a position you supposedly take with your hands by the side. The position they say, has to be awkward and straight. Hands by the side too.

Awkward day

Today had its nice and awkward moments ooo. This Lagos na wa!

So I was just going jejely on my own o for lunch this afternoon and I got stopped by this bros.
He spoke Yoruba all thru and was trying to convince me to buy 'AGBO' (herbal tea/drink)!
I try not to be snobbish yet still quickening my steps like I didn't hear. Then, this bros started walking fast after me o.
Come and see stylish running. hm! No time. I have lived too long in Lagos to fall for any pranks.
Very very awkward things that happen can cause afraidness.

On my way home, I started thinking of what to blog and some awkward things crossed my mind.
So I decided to share with you my worst interview moments. It wasn't funny at all then.

Check out the awkward conversation
Me: Sorry I'm late sir
Interviewer: That's not good for a 1st impression, have your seat. We'll have to be fast with this.
Me: (*screaming in my head* OPE OOO) Okay sir *awkward smile*
Int: I see you've got 'this' and 'that' on your CV but I must say...what we do here is quite different from that...
Me: *fingers start shaking*
Interviewer: So tell us about yourself.
Me: *mouth opens for 10 secs but words do not flow* Next thing I hear from myself is ..."I'm good...I'm...I'm a fast person...sometimes I try to blend in them...yada yada bla bla bla(*screaming in my head again* WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU MICHAEL!!!)
Interviewer: ???
Me: !

You don't want to know the rest of the gist. Trust me...
'I'm good'??? What is that?

Here's one comment from a blog post I was reading one time on a random guy that was trying to chyke a girl

"if u stay in Ibadan (the home of razz and dirty guyz) u will understand the pain i feel more… u r on ur way to probably buy diesel for the generator nd u r angry dat a chic lyk u is goin thru smfng dis traumatizn, u try to form chic in ur condition by wearn a pair of GUCCI shadez wf ur tube dress nd leggings (still carrying the diesel gallon wf its mouth stuck wif pure water nylon cos dere is no cover) ...oooshheee! den this Ibadan boi comes and says ” ‘ello baby was trynn to know u more, are u goin to bought your generator some fuel?’

You think you have more awkward stories? feel free to share o. Wonders haven't ended.

Indulgence Day

So just as it is, today, unintentionally (in my world) turned out to be that title above. Being too serious kills creativity.
Can you imagine being in a cinema and all you can think of is to go to the book store??? For what? Okay so I broke my movie jinx today. I watched X-Men First Class. COOOOOL!!!(2 fingers in the air).

And ummm...ya..its a big deal. I happen to pass in front of silverbird galleria virtually every blessed day and I haven't seen a movie in say 3 months. I must add that I went there...say 3 times...just to get books. *smh*.

So I discovered, there some things I haven't been doing/done in a long while which I'm going to be indulging in just for today (I hope). Last on the list is 'sleeping early'. (c'mon 10pm is early now). Well whatever...I hope you had a great day?
If you didn't, maybe the video below will help you laugh a little. Okay, that is on the indulgence list too.(Post your 1st ever video on the blog).
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!(and end with a silly laughter).

I owe you.

*On my knees* No excuses. I miss this space soooo much.
It's my mind's slate and I owe you all an apology for being an unfaithful blogger. Hehehe...

Now, its funny what's happening this days in my beloved Africa.
Gaddhafi power-drunk and hell-bent on holding on to it. If only he realises that sometimes to prove you're a man you have to let go. But its sad the way things are turning out. People living in caves like we are in the days of old.

Heard Mubarak has a stomach cancer. *smh* I hope he makes it through.

My beloved Nigeria, on the brink of a Naira-value nosedive now deals with a major National issue of insecurity. Wars in others countries are fought with neighbouring countries or even non-neighbouring ones but my beloved Africa wars with its very own self. Where lies our dignity?

I just hope y'all are keeping abreast of the happenings around you. Notwithstanding, good things are still happening. In the Sports scene, we're not doing bad. Entertainment industry hasn't gotten any better.

God help us all. Don't forget to read my latest note.
